Air conditioners come in different packages to cater to different needs. People who are planning on having one installed in their house should think carefully about their requirements so that they can get an appropriate unit. Here are the most popular air conditioner types and their applications:
Window Type
This is the most basic form of air conditioning with every part in one relatively compact container. It is designed for easy installation and single room cooling. Setup is a breeze. Just set it on a window so that it can blow hot air outside, make sure the edges are sealed for optimum efficiency, plug it in, and enjoy its cooling effect.
Central AC
Unlike the window ACs, central air conditioners are designed to have an impact on the entire household. While it is true that homeowners can simply purchase a bigger window type unit to cool a larger area, the source of the cool air will still be localized such that one part feels colder than the other. In a central cooling system, cold air travels through the existing ducts and are distributed fairly evenly throughout the house for greater comfort.
Split Type
The split type is a common alternative to the window units. They are both suited to small confined areas. The difference is that this one has interior and exterior components. This results in a more quiet operation as the compressor and other major sources of noise are placed outside. If using window space for cooling is not feasible, the using a split type is the way to go as it only needs a little tubing to pass through the walls.
Portable AC
Portables can cool a room by itself but it is also suitable as a backup for central ACs. There may be parts of the house that receive sunlight directly which turns the temperature up to an uncomfortable degree. A portable unit may be wheeled in the eastern part during the day to augment the cooling effect and moved to the western side in the afternoon when the sun is making its presence felt there.
